Luigi Of Italy Hair Salon & Color Studio
Our Story: Welcome and thank you for visiting Luigi of Italy. Please allow me to introduce myself, my name is John, I am the artistic designer/director of Luigi of Italy. I’d like to take a moment to tell you a bit about our history, our story. Every business has a story and our story begins with family. In the early sixties, my brother Luigi and I, along with a close friend, opened the first Luigi of Italy on Allerton Avenue in the Bronx. It was a new beginning for the salon and a new beginning for me, a young man with only four months experience as a hairstylist! Shortly after opening, we became members of the Colombian Hairstylist Guild in Manhattan. Offering top notch education in the field of Cosmetology, this membership was a great opportunity for a new kid on the block like me! After five months, I participated in my first hairstyling competition. Competing against fifty-two other hairstylists, I was awarded first prize. In the early seventies, Luigi and I worked for Clairol at the International Hairshow and judged many competitions. In addition, we became state examiners for the industry and remained so for many years. New York attracts and retains many talented hairstylists. Over the years, Luigi and I had the opportunity to train many of these talented young people. Quite a few have opened their own salons and are very successful; I am very proud to have been a part of their success. A talented and successful hairstylist himself, Luigi had always dreamed of owning a chain of salons. In the fall of 1994, Luigi negotiated a lease with a prominent mall in Westchester to open the fourth Luigi of Italy. While pursuing his dream, Luigi became very ill. In light of his unexpected illness the lease was returned, unsigned. In January of 1995, the world lost a great hairdresser and a great man. We still miss him very much. Despite our heavy hearts we sought to realize Luigi’s wish. In the fall of 1996, Luigi of Italy opened in Eastchester. Throughout the years, we have had the privilege of servicing many communities, always striving to make a visit to Luigi of Italy a memorable and pleasurable experience for all. Our newly renovated Eastchester location has grown to accommodate four additional stations and two very talented master stylists, and we have room for four additional master stylists. Luigi may no longer be with us but his name and legacy live on in our hearts, our minds and our commitment to providing all of our clients with exceptional service and an unforgettable experience.
